What You’ll Do

Infrastructure Projects is responsible for Telstra's major infrastructure projects, such as the rollout of its Intercity Fibre network

As Senior Health and Safety Specialist, you will provide subject matter expertise, guidance, advice on all things Health Safety and The Environment to support The National Infrastructure Projects team deliver on all programs of work.

The expected outcomes will be ensuring a safe and sustainable delivery of all National Infrastructure Projects, meeting all Health, Safety and Environmental deliverables and effective management of InfraCo’s Health Safety and Environmental risk. The role will be heavily field based with travel expected to support the field design and construct teams.

Role Purpose

  • Inspect, test and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow internal safety standards and government regulations
  • Preparing reports on findings, actioning Donesafe and other Health Safety and Environment Management systems as and when required
  • Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous working conditions
  • Devising strategies and programs that prioritize employees' safety and welfare
  • Conduct and manage field based assurance activities including audits and inspections on internal/external workforce
  • Able to clearly communicate to all levels of management
  • Assist with and guide the business through internal and external Health Safety and Environmental audits
  • Provide SME Advice on all matters involving Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage deep technical knowledge and professional expertise in Health Safety and Environment to provide strategic advice to Telstra business leaders, interpreting relevant Health Safety and Environment legislation and regulations to guide the development of compliance processes and frameworks
  • Significantly contribute to strategic initiatives that align attitudes and behaviours of Telstra employees with various health and safety imperatives across the business, ensuring consistent application of Telstra operating systems, policies and procedures for Health Safety and Environment
  • Apply a breadth of knowledge to provide strategic advice in the areas of Health and Safety performance improvement, Environment, Workers Compensation Claims Management, Return to Work following injury, Development of data systems and data delivery, Legal and Regulatory Compliance at Telstra
  • Leverage strong inter-personal skills to effectively partner and collaborate with managers and lines of business to achieve effective management of Health Safety and Environment performance, incorporate health and safety into enterprise plans and provide input into education and communication awareness approaches
  • Gather relevant sources of information regarding the implementation of Health Safety and Environment strategies, via monitoring, evaluation and analysis of statistics and audit reports and effectively communicate with Business Unit personnel to assist them to address any new or emerging issues or trends
