Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY
Clinical Scientists conduct clinical research across all investigative phases and ensure the quality and integrity of data and safe and proper management of study parameters. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive clinical research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.

NOTE: This position will offer remote, work-from-home opportunities, but you must be available to work periodically in our Nashville, TN office periodically.

JOB SUMMARY
The Wilkins Health Equity and Engagement Lab (WHEEL) is seeking a Senior Scientist with a background in health equity and community engagement to manage/lead the research team. The Senior Scientist will work on collaborative research teams to solve real-world problems, producing objective, scientific analyses in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports to guide policymakers on diverse issues. The Senior Scientist will work on an interdisciplinary team that includes health equity experts, community engagement specialists, clinical researchers, public health experts, natural scientists, epidemiologists, social scientists, and others with relevant training. They will apply rigorous, empirical research designs to analyze health equity issues and evaluate programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides support for a broad portfolio of sophisticated health equity and community engagement research projects in a team structure
• Focuses on overall project quality and deliverables while completing job responsibilities with direction from Principal Investigator
• Prepares study protocols, engagement plans, or other project implementation plans in collaboration with Principal Investigator and research team to address research questions and objectives
• Identifies and collects appropriate data, including from literature, databases, interviews and/or surveys using scientifically valid methods
• Synthesizes, interprets, and communicates complex quantitative and qualitative results to internal and external audiences
• Performs quality assurance and quality control procedures on own and others' work
• Supports team members in ideation and dissemination of projects and proactively seeks out opportunities to build scientific reputation
• Prepares written technical reports, research progress reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations
• Supports Principal Investigator in identifying challenges and strategies to mitigate risk early on; communicates any risks and mitigation strategies, if necessary

• Oversees research team activities

• Supervises, plans, designs and implements research projects

• Establishes highly complex protocol(s); defines data collection, evaluation and analysis procedures

• Contributes to research so as to merit serving as author or co-author on research publications, etc.

• Assists Principal Investigator in writing research grants and contract proposals

• Prepares manuscripts and/or assists Principal Investigator  in manuscript preparation for scientific journals

• Presents research findings as needed

• Responsible for plan and coordination of literature and library searches and data collection programs

• Develops reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
