About the Job

JPI has an exciting opportunity for a PR and Communications Intern to join our External Communications team located in Irving, TX. The PR and Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting in drafting, editing, and distributing press releases and other communications materials. The Intern will foster relationships with key associates across the organization and external media contacts to ensure the successful completion of deliverables. The position will report to the Director of Executive Operations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

PR & Communications Apprentice and Intern

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and distributing press releases and other external communications materials.

  • Conduct research and gather information for press releases, media pitches, and other projects.

  • Monitor media coverage and maintain press clippings.

  • Assist in the creation and design of presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Support the development and execution of social media strategies, including content creation and scheduling.

  • Assist with the design and production of marketing materials using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Maintain and update media contact lists using Cision.

  • Write and edit content in accordance with AP Style guidelines.

  • Conduct keyword research and assist with SEO strategies to improve online visibility.

  • Utilize LinkedIn Learning for continuous professional development and skill enhancement.

  • Prepare reports and presentations for the Director of Executive Operations.

  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to contribute creative ideas.

  • Perform other administrative and external communications-related tasks as assigned.

  • Additional duties include ad-hoc assistance with internal communications calendar and review materials.

Skills and Experience Gained

  • Proficiency in Cision for media monitoring and contact management.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Basic to intermediate skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Competence in using Canva for graphic design and content creation.

  • Mastery of AP Style for writing and editing.

  • Understanding of SEO principles and best practices.

  • Experience in developing and executing social media strategies.

  • Enhanced research and analytical skills.

  • Ability to produce high-quality presentations and reports.

  • Exposure to professional development resources through LinkedIn Learning.

  • Hands-on experience working in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree, preferred.

  • 3-5 years experience in a business or professional setting (inclusive of non-profit or government roles).

  • Proven experience in an executive support role or similar position.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.

  • Proficiency in using business software and tools, including MS Office and project management applications.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
