Description

 

The  Director  for Advanced  Practice  Providers (APPs)  reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and the Chief Medical Officer designee and provides administrative leadership to APPs ensuring the following functions are facilitated and/ or carried out to provide consistent centralized support to the Children’s National Hospital APPs.

The APP Director:

  • Will develop, plan, implement, direct, and evaluate activities, resources, programs and services for an individual department, division or sub-function in accordance with CNH policies and procedures.
  • Is responsible to coordinate an infrastructure for Advanced Practice Providers within the CNH Division of Nursing, Framework for Nursing Practice, and Medical Staff guidelines. Such infrastructure will support the CNH Mission and Vision statements and support the CNH Standards of Excellence.
  • Shall be credentialed by the medical staff and eligible for privileges to function in an expanded nursing role as a clinical practitioner to a group of patients. During clinical practice, the Director will act under the collaborative supervision of a physician and is responsible for the management of care to patients assigned including: diagnostic and  therapeutic interventions, and  the  implementation  and  evaluation  of  an  appropriate  plan  of  care.  All activities are performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the medical and nursing divisions.
  • Will provide leadership and consultation within a specialty area through participation in unit/departmental initiatives and mentorship of others. 

All  APP  practice  is  based  on  the  legal  scope  of  practice,  national  and  specialty  nursing standards,  CNH  Policies  and  Procedures,  and  in  accordance  with  all  applicable  laws  and  regulations.  The  Professional  Model  of  Care  requires registered  professional  APPs  to  be  responsible  and  accountable  for  their  individual  practice.  CNH  supports  the  development  of  APP relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education
Master’s or Doctoral degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse (NP) or Physician Assistant from an accredited University and eligibility for medical staff credentialing 

Minimum Work Experience
5 years APP (NP/ PA) in an acute or primary care tertiary care pediatric setting2 years Strong supervisory experience leading APRN’s. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Expertise in the area of specialty.
Strong knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory agency requirements.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiar with budget considerations and personnel communication.
Must maintain active clinical role.
