About the role

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Director, Global Function Communications Business Partner leads the development and execution of integrated internal communications and change strategies for assigned global function(s), ensuring alignment with the enterprise narrative. As a senior communications advisor to a Management Board member and his/her functional senior leadership, the Director shapes communications that drive clarity, adoption, engagement, and trust. The Director is accountable for end-to-end communications strategy, planning, and outcomes, integrating Communications Centers of Excellence (CoE) capabilities to ensure measurable impact. With a deep understanding of the function’s strategic priorities, operating model, and role within the enterprise, the Director acts as a strategic advisor, connecting the MB member and function across the organization, partnering with other communications leaders, adjacent functions, and corporate teams to ensure consistent messaging, brand stewardship, and culturally appropriate communications across the global workforce.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary communications advisor to the assigned Management Board member of a global function, providing strategic counsel and high‑touch support for functional priorities and enterprise-wide communications needs.
  • Partner with functional senior leadership to define clear communications objectives and strategies that support functional business priorities and align with the enterprise narrative. Ensure all functional communications align with enterprise priorities and key messages are effectively cascaded throughout the function.
  • Lead development and execution of integrated internal communications and change plans for major functional initiatives and leadership events (e.g., town halls), orchestrating channels and timing to ensure timely, high-quality delivery and maximum impact.
  • Develop and refine executive communications content (e.g., speeches, presentations, announcements) and counsel leaders on effective messaging and delivery to ensure alignment with enterprise voice and standards.
  • Lead hands-on development and execution of communications deliverables as needed—including drafting content, managing channels, and supporting events end‑to‑end—while leveraging Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to scale, extend, and enhance impact.
  • Champion enterprise narrative, brand, and messaging standards across functional communications, ensuring consistent positioning, tone, and visual identity.
  • Drive communications that strengthen employee engagement and reinforce the desired organizational culture and behaviors across the function and enterprise.
  • Act as the central connector between functional leadership, Internal Comms, External Comms, and Corporate Affairs, ensuring awareness, coordination, and appropriate engagement across disciplines.  
  • Maintain active awareness of external narratives, reputational considerations, and stakeholder dynamics relevant to the function and enterprise, ensuring internal messaging is informed, aligned, and contextually grounded.
  • Work closely with Corporate Affairs and External Communications to ensure the Management Board member is appropriately positioned internally and externally, with enterprise messaging fully aligned.
  • Contribute to issues management and crisis response as needed by ensuring messaging is aligned, timely, and supportive when functional leadership engagement is required.
  • Partner with communications Centers of Excellence (e.g., internal and external communications), regional teams, and cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., HR, Legal, IT) to ensure integrated, high-quality, and culturally relevant communications.
  • Define success measures and leverage insights and feedback to continuously optimize communications strategies and outcomes.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Business Communications, Public Relations, or a related field

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS

  • At least 8 years of corporate communications experience spanning employee communications, business communications, and/or organizational change enablement with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Demonstrated success leading integrated communications strategy and execution for complex portfolios or large‑scale initiatives
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand business strategies, operating models, and transformation priorities and translate them into practical, high‑impact communications and adoption approaches
  • Proven experience serving as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders on communications, engagement, and change while demonstrating strong judgement and the ability to manage sensi
