About the role

Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department and following infection control practices.

  • Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of day and records in appropriate log. Runs test packs sterilizer load and records results. 
  • Receives and cleans soiled instruments and other usable patient supply items in decontamination area. Assembles packages and sterilizes all instruments and equipment.
  • Sorts all sterile items, stores in proper place, and organizes sterile supplies. Complies with PPE requirements. 
  • Effective and efficient use of equipment, supplies and people. Identifies inefficiencies and inaccuracies, responding appropriately. Actively participates in departmental/facility PI activities. Works to ensure the department meets regulatory standards. 
  • Provides services to other areas of hospital and keeps logs. Acts as a resource and provides education on sterilization to hospital.
  • Performs related duties as required. 

Required:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: Up to 1 year of work experience required.
  • Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:  
    • Sterile Processing certification required through IAHCSMM or CBSPD. 
    • American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required.
