POSITION SUMMARY
Aleut Federal is seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent to provide hands-on field leadership for heavy civil construction projects primarily located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing mass excavation, large-scale earthwork, site development, grading, underground utilities, erosion and sediment control, stormwater systems, and site restoration.
This position requires a strong field leader with demonstrated experience directing large dirt and heavy equipment operations, planning and sequencing civil work, and managing crews and subcontractors to safely execute work in accordance with project drawings, specifications, schedule, budget, quality requirements, and applicable federal requirements.
The Civil Superintendent will serve as the primary field leader for assigned civil operations and will be responsible for coordinating manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and work activities to achieve daily and project-level production goals. The position requires a proactive, hands-on leader who can identify field constraints, resolve constructability issues, maintain accurate project records, and communicate effectively with Project Management, Safety, Quality Control, client representatives, subcontractors, and craft personnel.
Projects may include heavy civil construction, mass earthwork, underground utilities, demolition, environmental remediation, industrial construction, hazardous waste activities, concrete, drainage, and associated site infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Lead daily heavy civil, earthwork, and site development operations; plan work fronts, manpower, equipment, materials, and sequencing.
- Direct crews, foremen, equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors for safe, productive execution.
- Plan and oversee mass excavation and grading, structural fill placement and compaction, underground utility installations and drainage systems, site restoration, and survey/layout verification.
- Installation and maintenance of site erosion and sediment controls.
- Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, work packages, and contract requirements; resolve field conflicts and differing site conditions.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, deliveries, testing, survey, engineering, and other project resources.
- Track quantities, production, manpower, equipment, and schedule performance; adjust resources to maintain planned production.
- Lead coordination meetings, site walkdowns, toolbox talks, and safety meetings; maintain site access, haul roads, staging, and housekeeping.
- Maintain accurate daily records and coordinate with Project Management, Safety, Quality Control, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Support change management, quantity takeoffs, estimating, invoice/quantity review, and bid or business-development activities as needed.
- Monitor staff and subcontractor performance, required training, and applicable regulatory and contract requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong field leadership, planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead multiple crews, subcontractors, and heavy-equipment operations and adjust resources to meet production goals.
- Strong knowledge of heavy civil methods, sequencing, soil behavior, excavation/trenching, and earthwork production.
- Knowledge of SWPPP, erosion control, environmental BMPs, and construction safety requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, grading and utility plans, specifications, geotechnical data, and survey information.
- Effective communication with management, clients, subcontractors, craft personnel, engineers, vendors, testing agencies, and regulators
