Project Overview
Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Position Summary
You will be working as part of the Technology and Development team identifying and writing testing procedures for potential improvements in areas of material processing equipment, treatment and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities. You will be preparing technical reports, studies, procurement documentation, and design documentation, performing calculations using engineering software, and supporting systems. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in mechanical process design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Mechanical diagrams, Process diagrams and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.
Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Responsibilities
- The primary role of the Senior Mechanical Process Engineer is to plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group.
- Must have the ability to work independently, use engineering judgment, and devise new approaches to solving problems.
- Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
- Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
- Support the procurement of equipment by developing procurement packages, reviewing quotations and evaluating them technically; review of vendor submittals and resolution of technical issues during the procurement of mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate with the systems engineering group and other groups in development of equipment requirements.
- Review and disposition of field change notices, non-conformance reports, and condition reports.

- Experience associated with front in development and/or research technology testing (i.e., design of experiment testing).
