Job Description

The Field Service Application Scientist/Field Service Engineer I is a multi-disciplinary molecular biology, organic chemistry, and engineering position that will contribute to the organization as part of our Global Field Service team, bringing curiosity, problem solving skills, and scientific acumen to LGC.

The role of an application and service hybrid involves scientific expertise, including customer assay optimization and/or verification/validation on LGC instrumentation, installation, service and technical support, applications development and support, and training to our customers through a variety of interfaces such as in person (field based) and remotely. This position is a combination of customer relation, training, and support working with customers of diverse scientific backgrounds and requires excellent customer-facing skills combined with a strong understanding of LGC products, including instrumentation and reagents. This requires a fusion of knowledge from genomics, PCR-based genetic analysis, laboratory automation, oligo synthesis, extraction, and customer support.

What you’ll do

  • Provide independent in-house and on-site scientific applications support and training
  • Perform instrument installations, maintenance, and repairs as needed supporting the Field Service Engineers
  • Provide technical and applications assistance to customer inquiries often requiring innovative solutions using good troubleshooting skills and critical thinking including but limited to evaluating assay design, optimizing PCR, extraction, or oligo synthesis protocols, data analysis, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as R&D, production, test, quality, etc. on new developments, product implementation, validation, and verification as requested by management.
  • Support commercial/marketing through the development of application notes, scientific posters, and other presentation materials. On occasion, may require travel to represent LGC at tradeshows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics, or closely related field with a similar skillset
  • Experience in the field of genetics, molecular biology and/or oligo synthesis. Working knowledge of PCR, real-time PCR, nucleic acid purification, data analysis, experimental design, and/or oligo synthesis.
  • Strong general scientific knowledge and experience
  • Experience in presenting technical material in written and verbal form is essential
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of interacting with diverse customer base both internal and external to LGC
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot scientific/technical problems
  • Automation experience beneficial
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time, mostly within the U.S with occasional international trips
  • Driver’s license
