About the role

We are looking for a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for creating our Cardholder User Interface SDK (Web/Native) at Marqeta. This is a newly formed area of focus, and we are looking for a strong technical leader with deep experience in developing end to end user experiences from scratch.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely within the United States. We’d love for you to join us!

The Impact You'll Have

  • Collaborate with product and design teams to contribute to the development of innovative cardholder solutions for our customers.
  • Hands-on involvement in coding using modern/industry standard programming languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS and React Native. 
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps, design documents, and the implementation of key system components to ensure the delivery of high-quality UI experiences. 
  • Participate in design discussions, advising stakeholders, and establishing success criteria.
  • Advocate for and implement modern best practices in software design and development across the team.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in web/native application development with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or 4 years with a Master’s degree; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in developing high-quality web applications with a focus on front-end development, using modern web technologies such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. 
  • Experience building mobile applications using React Native. 
  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based architecture to facilitate consistency and scalability in UI development.
  • In-depth knowledge of Core Web Vitals metrics and their impact on user experience.
  • Strong understanding of design principles and the ability to translate design mockups and wireframes into responsive, pixel-perfect UI implementations.
  • Experience with back-end technologies and integration techniques, including working with RESTful APIs in Node.js.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining monitoring systems, including performance and error monitoring.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP). 
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and experience with collaborative development workflows.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex web/native application issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, including interfacing with designers, product managers, and other developers.
  • Ability to share task-level trade-offs that impact the product delivery.
  • Experience in mentoring junior developers and providing technical guidance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Domain experience in Payments or Fintech industry in general.
  • Experience with Swift and/or Kotlin development.
  • Experience with performance optimization techniques for mobile applications to ensure smooth user interactions and “delightful” experiences.
  • Experience utilizing techniques for optimizing front-end performance (e.g., lazy loading, code splitting, etc.).
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies like Scrum or Kanban for iterative development and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with responsive design techniques to ensure consistent user experiences across different screen sizes and devices.
  • A passion to make awesome software and a go-getter mindset!

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.
