We invite qualified applicants to apply for the position which serves as an Accountant in the Vouchering Section of the Administrative Services Division at State Retirement Systems (SRS).  This position is responsible for reviewing and auditing daily deduction reports, auditing and balancing monthly prelists and vouchers, and reviewing and processing files for new benefits as well as adjusting current benefit files. This position is also responsible for researching returned checks. The ideal candidate should have an eye for detail, skill in mathematics, and exercise sound logic with strong problem-solving skills.   SRS is conveniently located on the west side of Springfield with free parking on-site.

Essential Functions

• Performs professional accounting and auditing functions involving the preparation and verification of monthly prelists (payroll) and vouchers for the payment of all benefits and refunds provided by State Employee’s Retirement Systems Trust Fund authorizing the Comptroller’s Office to issue benefit and refund checks.
• Audits benefit payment vouchers including first time payments, benefit adjustment payments, and commercial and refund payments, providing required changes to Information Technology resulting in revised voucher run until all aspects of each benefit voucher are precise and balanced.
• Analyzes and processes member account adjustments by auditing both the active member database and the benefit master file database resulting in payment on next available voucher for adjustment to ongoing benefit.
• Analyzes, audits, and reconciles reports received from the Comptroller’s Office regarding rejected electronic fund transfers and takes the necessary action to correct the record to ensure that benefit payments are paid accurately on the next available payroll.
• Audits and balances daily benefit deduction reports relating to optional and mandatory payroll deductions from benefit payments.
• Processes, audits, and balances all child support, maintenance, tax levy, and bankruptcy vouchers through the use of SAP commercial vouchering systems and State Employee’s Retirement Systems electronic Online State Disbursement Unit database.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
