Job Summary
The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2026 with requirements to be physically present on the Hattiesburg and/or Gulf Coast campuses. The Elementary Education faculty currently provide training to initial and advanced teaching licensure candidates in Elementary Education, including students in our Teacher Assistant program. We are especially interested in candidates whose experience includes bridging research and practice in P-12 elementary education, literacy and/or mathematics education, special education, culturally inclusive education, assessment, and clinical supervision. We aim to recruit applicants with a background in Curriculum and Instruction who will support the School of Education’s Elementary Education programs including a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Elementary Education). Program delivery includes face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
Advanced degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field (by August 2026).
Two (2) or more years of full-time teaching experience with standards-based curriculum in a P-12 classroom.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
An earned doctoral degree
Experience with literacy, mathematics, or special education
Experience leading others in implementing evidence-based instructional practices in P-12 settings (e.g., academic coach, district curriculum lead, professional learning community leader, or settings with students who have high incidence disabilities)
Experience incorporating technology in instruction and assessment
Evidence of creating equitable and culturally-responsive education experiences.
