​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

The Azure PostgreSQL team is seeking a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager to join the PostgreSQL OSS Engine team. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with expertise in database internals and distributed database systems, who has a strong passion for PostgreSQL and Open Source. 

Our team includes Opensource PostgreSQL committers and contributors. You will collaborate with a geographically diverse team, working on advanced database features across the PostgreSQL ecosystem, from low-level I/O and storage subsystems to user-facing query improvements. You will engage closely with the global PostgreSQL community, interacting with developers and users from various regions and organizations.

• We engage in daily collaboration, learning from a diverse set of world-class engineers, and the PostgreSQL community. 
• We develop, test, and refine patches daily, building consensus ideas with fellow community members. 
• We strive to enhance PostgreSQL continuously by working closely with the PostgreSQL community. 
• We use lessons learned from managing a large fleet of PostgreSQL servers to inform upstream PostgreSQL improvements. 
• We prioritize considering, discussing, and reaching consensus on the long-term impact of architectural and design decisions.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager, you will mentor engineers, strategize on future roadmap items, provide architectural insights, support your team in designing and developing enhancements, and review code and design within the open-source PostgreSQL.
