If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, we have an exciting opportunity for Principal Materials Engineer in the Product Engineering (Materials and Fuel Rod Design) group within Nuclear Fuels and Component Engineering group.

 

This role is located in Churchill, PA.

No relocation or sponsorship is available.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

 

• Responsibilities will include applying knowledge of materials science to lead the

 

development of materials for nuclear applications, translating engineering requirements into

 

test plans, development and execution of test plans and preparation of engineering analyses, calculations, and reports.

 

• Bring engineering rigor to resolution of problems, requiring prior knowledge and/or literature review within the given discipline.

 

• Direct the work of other engineers on assignments that range from basic to complex.

 

• Lead the development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes.

 

• Mentor junior engineers in topics related to materials manufacturing including raw material, intermediate product processing and finishing of ready-to-assembly fuel and related components.

 

• Implement hands-on material testing programs in a test lab environment. Testing ranges from mechanical testing, autoclave corrosion testing, and materials and chemical characterization.

 

• Interface with customers, national labs, and universities for collaborative development programs to develop advanced materials and work with external testing laboratories.

 

• Identify new opportunities to leverage Westinghouse materials and testing capabilities to develop commercial products and services based on customer needs.

 

• Coordinate multi-discipline groups or teams to accomplish desired business objectives.

 

• Conduct statistical analysis of test data results.

 

• This person will also be required to develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution or promote related business products to both internal and external customers.

 

 

Who You Are:

 

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline required, with a strong preference toward Materials Science or Chemical Engineering, Advanced degree preferred.

 

· Minimum 10 years applicable experience required;12 plus years preferred.

 

· Experience with zirconium-based alloys is required for this role.

 

• Strong organizational and planning skills, excellent communication skills (written and spoken) and overall attention to both technical and written details.

 

• Highly motivated, self-starter, able to identify and prioritize tasks without day-to-day management input, proactively identify and escalate conflicts for resolution when required.

 

• Orientation towards achieving Customer Success.
