The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Product Development Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Assuming technical leadership on NPI (New Product Introduction) and NTI (New Technology Introduction) initiatives
Formulating, processing and characterizing materials for 3M Nextel Ceramic Fiber development
Interfacing with cross-functional team members (marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, technical service, quality, regulatory, etc) to ensure successful program delivery.
Generating intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets. Leading technical interactions with corporate labs to identify new technologies, processes and materials.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or science (such as Ceramics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering) completed and verified prior to start from an accredited institution.
6 year(s) of product development experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Master's or PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
Three years of product development experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Skills include experience with Ceramic processing and analytical techniques such as sol gel processing, fiber forming techniques, high temperature processing and chemical/ mechanical properties testing
Work location:
Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
Relocation: Is authorized
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
Responsibilities of this position may include direct and/or indirect physical or logical access to information, systems, technologies subjected to the regulations/compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
