The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer–Vehicle Management Systems to join the Air Dominance division located in Berkeley, MO.  This position will focus on supporting multiple fighter programs (including F-15, F/A-18) for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The VMS Software Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development and maintenance of flight and subsystem control software for multiple fighter programs. The successful candidate will work with an existing team of real-time embedded software engineers; guidance, navigation and control (GNC) engineers; and hardware engineers to develop safety critical software on the F-15, F/A-18. VMS software integrates flight control laws, aircraft surface command, aircraft sensor signal processing and subsystem control to ensure controlled flight. The software developed will include application layer software and low-level infrastructure software which will require close collaboration with hardware/firmware vendors. The senior software engineer will not only take part in software development but will participate in the full development lifecycle; including requirements development, desktop test, lab test and support of flight test

Position Responsibilities:

  • Direct the implementation, deployment, and maintenance of safety critical software systems for LOR1 VMS applications.

  • Define and implement VMS architectures that align with customer needs and Boeing standards.

  • Direct verification and validation for VMS in compliance with internal (Design Practices) and industry standards and regulations (LOR1, 516C, DO-178, 882e).

  • Investigate and resolve VMS software-related issues reported by users or that occur during system operation.

  • Advise and partner with cross-functional engineering teams to identify, review, and inform requirements and specifications for VMS.

  • Provide technical leadership on the development of VMS and direct the integration of externally-generated functions into VMS.

  • Architects next generation VMS common application architecture for future updates to current models of the F/A-18 and F-15 fighter aircraft

  • Leads modernization roadmaps for legacy VMS solutions

  • Serves as the primary technical interface for AD VMS including advising management, shaping enterprise approaches, and working closely with customer counterparts.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of software documentation, including design documents, user manuals, and technical specifications.

  • Influence research and implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and methods in VMS software development.

  • Actively teach, mentor and share knowledge that helps further the growth and development of the organization
     

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience with C, C++,  and/or Python

  • 10 years of experience with Version Control Software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other technical degree

  • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently but also lead and guide smaller teams of less experienced software engineers.

  • Team leadership experience

  • Software development experience in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and automated DevOps processes/tools

  • Experience using team collaboration tools including Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence

  • Experience in software development using languages such as C, C++, Java, Ada, and/or Python

  • Experience working on an Agile team in a collaborative environment
