Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Works closely with treating providers and Infusion Coordinator to perform medical intake of
all patients.
2. Implements and manages the care of infusion patients, including pre-infusion care, initiation
and maintenance of IV, sterile preparation and labeling of IV admixture, appropriate VAD
care (if indicated) and safe administration of intravenous medications and in accordance with
practice standards and FDA labeling information.
3. Documents infusion care visits in detail in infusion systems and electronic medical records.
4. Completes appropriate screening prior to initiation of infusion.
5. Provides careful monitoring of patient condition through the infusion process.
6. Identifies emergency situations and independently initiates appropriate actions.
7. Conducts and reinforces patient education, including: treatment plan/regimen, financial
implications of care, symptom management, side effects, and patient/family responsibilities
related to after-care.
8. Acts as an advocate and coordinator of patient care with other health care personnel and
evaluates patient care measures instituted.
9. Maintains advanced knowledge of infusion practice, including but not limited to adjunct
therapies, vascular access devices, infusion pumps and infection control standards.
10. Maintains regulatory and accrediting standards compliance.
11. Delegates tasks to the appropriate staff within their job description and in accordance with
the Arizona Nurse Practice Act.
12. Clearly communicates patient care needs to physicians as necessary.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Procedures:
1. Provides pre- and post-procedure supportive care as needed for patients undergoing
interventional pain procedures. This may include initiation and maintenance of IV,
providing IV hydration, post-procedure observation and vital sign monitoring, and post procedure
discharge instructions.
2. Documents nursing care provided pre- and post-procedure in eCW.
Qualifications
Education: A graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
Experience: Minimum one (1) years of recent infusion nursing experience and three (3) years
of nursing experience; familiarity with the administration of biologics a plus; strong IV
competencies; unrestricted, current state license as a Registered Nurse in AZ; BLS for
Healthcare Providers certification, ACLS a plus; computer experience and Microsoft
applications (e. g., Outlook, WORD, Excel) required; high-level clinical judgment and problemsolving
skills or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved
by the Infusion Nurse Manager and/or Human Resources..

hazards and standards; health care laws and regulations; and clinical policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and
community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies.
3. Knowledge of quality-improvement principles and techniques.

professional nursing.

7. Skill in intravenous insertion, venipuncture and medication administration.

2. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals at all levels of the medical practice.
3. Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously and deal effectively with changing priorities.
4. Ability to engage patients and families in the development and implementation of a care
plan.
5. Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes from other providers.
6. Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.
