Summary of the position:

The HR Generalist performs duties at a professional level in the following areas: Payroll, Benefits and Learning Management System (LMS) administration.  The HR Generalist is tasked with collecting and verifying timesheet accuracy, addressing time management system issues, preparing, and reconciling payroll, and participating in audits. Responsible for administering the company’s benefit programs and LMS systems.    

The HR Generalist position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Director of Human Resources. 

Duties and responsibilities:

Payroll Administration:

  • Payroll processing for weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payroll
  • Review timecards for payroll processing, including assisting supervisors if time is not recorded by employees accurately
  • Review onboarding to ensure all new hires have their onboarding completed so their information feeds over to BenefitSolver, Fidelity and Indiana New Hire Reporting
  • Review BenefitSolver and communicate with employees who have not completed their benefit enrollment
  • Review and maintain integrations for Fidelity, BenefitSolver, Indiana New Hire Reporting and Payroll general ledger
  • Process payroll calculations, deductions, insurance benefits, wage garnishment, tax filings, bankruptcy, tax levies, and child support
  • Maintain and coordinate payroll taxes for State Withholding and State Unemployment and SUI Rates and register new States for State Unemployment and State Withholding Taxes
  • Provide support for employee payroll tax deductions – W4 and State and Local Tax Withholding
  • Analyze payroll problems and provide resolution
  • Review and process Sales commission payments
  • Address payroll related inquiries and requests from employees professionally and timely
  • Process W2 forms

Benefits and LMS Administration:

  • Assist employees with resolving any benefit issues
  • Assist with annual Open Enrollment process
  • Administer and manage corporate Leave Policy
  • Manage LMS system
  • Develop and assign training in LMS system
  • Respond to requests from various states regarding unemployment reporting
  • Perform compensation analysis
  • Create and manage Sales comp agreements
  • Submit commission payments for international employees
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or a related field or equivalent education

Professional experience:

  • 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in a non-union manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Excellent math skills
  • Experience using Workday, a plus
  • Highly proficient experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
