Assistant Professor of Biomedical Science
Florida Institute of TechnologyAbout the role
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop a nationally recognized and externally funded research program, and contribute to the institution and the profession through service. A Ph.D. in Biomedical Science or a closely related field is required for consideration. We invite applications from candidates with research interests and expertise across all areas of biomedical science. Both theoretical and experimental backgrounds are considered.
The Biomedical Science faculty are actively engaged in diverse research areas, including Cell and Molecular Biology, Genomics and Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology. Florida Tech has recently invested over $14 million to enhance engineering and science research infrastructure. This funding has supported significant updates to research facilities and the acquisition of advanced equipment, including a spinning disk confocal microscope, SEM, TEM, AFM, micro-CT scanner, and resources for biomedical manufacturing and testing.
The newly constructed Gordon L. Nelson Health Sciences Building now serves as the official home for the BES department, providing faculty with access to state-of-the-art equipment essential for molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qRT-PCR, flow cytometry, cell culture, and live cell imaging through automated epi-fluorescence microscopy and spinning disk confocal microscopy. Additionally, the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine has opened a branch on our campus, welcoming its first class of medical students in Fall 2024. The BES department collaborates closely with Burrell, offering a pre-medical pathway for Florida Tech students.
