Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Space Mission Systems, is seeking an Associate or Experienced Propulsion Systems Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to join our Propulsion Subsystem and Mission Operations teams in El Segundo, California.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, build, test, and operation of new space vehicles and missions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Systems Engineering, Liquid Propulsion, and/or Mission Operations within Propulsion.

Responsibilities include requirements decomposition, verification and validation, propulsion systems analysis, interface definition, test support, and post-launch mission support. The successful candidate will collaborate with experienced propulsion engineers developing a new liquid propulsion platform and is expected to cross-train on other platforms to support system testing and mission operations.

This position requires 100% onsite presence in El Segundo, CA, with work performed in both open and secure (closed) environments.

Position Responsibilities:   

  • Define requirements and develop verification artifacts for liquid propulsion systems

  • Coordinate and manage functional and physical interfaces between propulsion systems and the vehicle

  • Configure and/or design propulsion subsystems and components to meet customer and regulatory standards

  • Utilize testing, analysis, modeling, and simulation tools to estimate system performance

  • Define and support certification tests for propulsion subsystems and components

  • Develop and execute operational procedures for propulsion mission operations, including providing on-orbit customer support

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience 

  • Understanding of mission assurance standards applicable to satellite propulsion subsystem design, analysis, and testing

  • Practical application of the rocket equation and thruster performance equations to perform system analyses

  • Direct experience with space-based liquid propulsion systems (bipropellant and monopropellant)

  • Familiarity with the propulsion hardware supply base, including tanks, thrusters, and flow components

  • On-console experience supporting propulsion mission operations

  • Experience working within secure (closed) environments

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Associate (Level 2) Summary pay range: $98, 600 - $133,400

Experienced (Level 3) Summary pay range: $119,850 - $162,150
