Who You Are
An exciting opportunity is available for a talented Research Associate / Sr. Research Associate to join the Development Sciences team of Institute of Medicine (IOM) at Altos Labs, based in San Diego.
The Altos IOM is aiming to capture knowledge generated about cell health and programming and develop transformative medicines. We are seeking very highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate and dedicated to employing their expertise to restore cell health and resilience and reverse disease. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the IOM to develop novel therapeutic projects and pipelines at Altos. The candidate will work in a highly dynamic and cross-functional environment that requires collaboration with the Institutes of Science and may span multiple therapeutic areas and approaches.
This Research Associate / Sr. Research Associate position is a lab-based role. Responsibilities of this role include:
- Work closely with project leads and other functions of the IOM Development Sciences team to perform critical experiments and ensure critical project timelines are met.
- Work closely with the research team of Institute of Science to optimize and transfer assays and techniques into IOM and help validate discoveries.
- Set up and operate laboratory equipment, collect and handle samples, prepare reagents and materials, perform experimental procedures, record and consolidate data using observation, measurement, and analytical techniques.
- Communicate and report data and findings to the manager and project team, and present at the project meeting when instructed.
Who You Are
Minimal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, plus >2 years of wet lab experience in a molecular and cell biology lab (industry or academia)
- Solid research experience with the following techniques and interest in learning new techniques:
- Basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA isolation and purification, PCR/RT-PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.)
- Mammalian cell culture techniques
- Microplate-based cell, nucleic acid and protein quantification assays (e.g., ELISA)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, to establish, and maintain effective working relationships with members of the project team.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a highly collaborative team.
- Excellent record keeping skills in a lab setting (familiarity with ELNs preferred).
- Computer skills, including proficiency with Google apps, Excel, and PowerPoint graphic skills to produce documents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi-parameter flow cytometry (e.g., surface staining, nuclear antigens, viability, proliferation, cytokines, etc.), including panel development and troubleshooting.
- Experience in gene editing and genome engineering technologies.
- Expertise in viral and non-viral gene therapy delivery technologies, including Lentiviral and AAV.
- Experience handling and performing experiments in rodent models is a plus.
- Experience working with stem cells is a plus.
- Experience in pre-clinical development of novel therapeutics, such as cell/gene therapy and nucleic acid therapeutics, is highly desired.
