The Mobile team at Hearsay is a tight-knit, small-but-mighty group of iOS Engineers, Android Engineers, a Quality Engineer, a Designer, and a Product Manager who all work closely together day to day. This role has high growth potential as you will have the opportunity to build countless features from scratch and dive into the latest and greatest of upcoming Android technologies. Grow with us!

  • Coding with Retrofit, Room, Android Architecture Components libraries, Jetpack, Espresso
  • Collaborate with various teams outside of Mobile like product management and design to execute a diverse range of product features in our mobile applications

  • Communicate and collaborate clearly and effectively with all members of our team to foster two-way learning and growth
  • Train other junior team members
  • Share your thoughts on product features, the user experience, or literally anything else across the company
  • Have the opportunity to learn about other parts of our tech stack like web-front end and back end if interested.

About you:

  • At least 4+ years of native Android app development experience
  • Deep understanding of Kotlin language including Coroutines and Flow
  • Understand the fundamentals of Android development and recognize common design patterns in the framework (RecyclerView, ViewPager, Navigation, etc)
  • Experience working across different parts of the Android stack (between UI, Repository, Network, and Data layers)
  • Experience building complex UIs with XML, using ConstraintLayout and other techniques
  • Keep up to date with latest Android development practices
  • Great understanding of one or more design patterns like clean architecture, MVVM, MVP, MVC
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into business solutions
  • Have opinions about what good Android code is, and willing to participate in lively discussions  to determine the direction of the project
  • Care about taking a part in the product process from ideation to execution
  • Have worked end to end on at least one app, and released it to the Play Store

What your typical day may look like:

  • Say good morning on Slack followed by some banter
  • Check your Kanban board tasks and dive back into things that you weren’t able to manage the day before, chatting with the iOS and Android engineers, QA, product manager or designer on Slack or Discord along the way to make sure you’re aligned.
  • Attend team standups, backlog grooming meetings (where our mobile team, along with QA, product manager and designer review current or created work items that require us to take certain actions), and a demo during a board check-in where we show ongoing progress to our product stakeholders.
  • Release frequently with continuous builds, testing and direct team feedback.
