The Oskaloosa plants include iron and brass foundries, a machine shop, assembly, finished goods warehousing, shipping and administrative offices. Job Description

Purpose:

The Manufacturing Improvement Engineer streamlines and improves processes, improves efficiency and productivity in the organization.  The Manufacturing Improvement Engineer has responsibility to build strong project teams and lean leaders to drive continuous improvement and growth.

Key Performance Indicators:

Leadership:

-Introduce and train team on CI tools quarterly.

Sustainability:

-Identify and implement 2 organizational improvements per facility, per year that reduce cost and improve operational efficiency.

-Create a training template for the future “agile” thinkers.

Core Functions:

-Future CI Thinker/COGS (40%):  Create and implement process improvement training that focuses on developing “agile thinkers” within the organization. Identify, engage, and enroll high potentials in CI thinker development. Set expectations for high potentials during coaching, mentoring, teaching inside of the context of Strategic Thinking. Plan for strategy sessions by collaborating with plant managers, facilitating site visits and effectively delegating research and learning opportunities to high potentials in service of laying the foundation for effective strategy sessions. Lead process owners to clearly understand how and why strategic process improvements elevate the business. Teach and mentor process owners how to share visibility into progress of process improvement and guide process owners to bring transparency and accountability for the momentum of initiatives to the rest of the organization.  Identify, develop and sustain at least one CI champion at each facility.

-Project Management (30%): Use balanced decision-making and strategically intervene when vision, clarity, insight and or buy in is needed in any area of aligning people with the business strategy, mission, vision, and values. Proactively identify obstacles and constraints that have the propensity to arise as problems and breakdowns and develop a plan to move initiatives, programs, and process improvements forward. Ensure events and trainings are purposeful and address specific barriers and organizational challenges that operate as barriers to fulfilling on the Clow Mission and Vision. Partner with capital project leaders to understand where improvements can be made and efficiency gained.

-Business Organizational Process Improvement (30%): Identify key opportunities for process and organizational improvement. Partner with department heads to create well thought-out, high-performance teams to manage process improvement and guide people to think systematically about what and how something needs to improve. Sell value and gain buy in for agile operating and growth by walking the floor, sharing successes, and inquiring into employee insights and concerns with regards to how work gets done. After gathering high impact areas for improvement, vet options, and set priorities. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

-Full intermediate MS Suite experience.

-CAD experience.

-Lean tools background.

-Expert in relaying change communications to all levels of the organization in addition to strong ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language

Education & Experience:

Preferred:

-Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering, and 1-3 years’ experience in Organizational and/or Project Management position.

Required:

-5-7 years’ experience in Organizational and/or Project Management position in a manufacturing environment.
