Job Description
Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
Provides direct, basic patient care activities under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse (“RN”), cleans specific equipment, transports patients, and handles inventory control.
Nursing Responsibilities and Duties:
Performs direct and indirect patient care activities following RN instructions, physician orders, policies, procedures and regulations.
Facilitates the flow of patients.
Helps discharge patients from the ASC.
Assists with prepping the patient for surgery.
Maintains a constant flow of patients.
Demonstrates understanding of Emergency procedures.
Maintains supplies as needed.
Communicates repair orders to appropriate personnel.
Uses proper body mechanics during all activities and duties.
Practices proper hand washing and principles of infection control.
Cleans and makes stretcher between cases.
Demonstrates understanding of fire safety procedure.
Communicates any problems, concerns or issues promptly to the Nurse/Physician.
Establishes and maintains a positive working rapport with all physicians and nursing staff.
Works as a team member, demonstrating a positive, supportive and helpful attitude towards patients, families, visitors, co-workers and physicians.
Protects the privacy and confidentiality of patients and employees.
Works effectively with co-workers to resolve identified problems.
Registration:
Customer service – Patient greeting, assistance.
Patient charts – Prep, sign in documents.
Prep:
Use electronic scheduling system to identify waiting patients.
Give assignment on schedule.
Greet patient.
Change patient in appropriate area with direction.
Assists pre-op patient as needed (age appropriateness/disability).
Use of lockers and chart documentation of secured valuables.
Select chair/stretcher appropriate to surgical case.
Collection and completion of urine pregnancy testing with nurse notification.
Application and completion of vital signs, including Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
Verbalizes use of glucometer.
Communication as needed to healthcare personnel regarding patient concerns, change in status, or abnormal results.
Use of electronic health record (“EHR”) to access needed pre-op labs.
Completion of EKG’s.
Access EHR program for old EKG’s.
Assist with bringing family to bedside.
PACU I / II:
Assist receiving patient, including place module in monitor.
Collect vital signs.
Provide warm blankets or gather necessary warming device.
Copy discharge instructions.
Assist with retrieving family members to PACU I.
Provide nutrition as dir
