This roleWe're seeking a Microfabrication Engineer with hands-on experience building devices at the micro and nano-scale. You will be focused on Fathom Radiant's cleanroom fabrication process development efforts at the Washington Nanofabrication Facility (WNF). In driving development of fabrication process flows, you will maintain process stability and closed-loop metrology of fabricated devices. Your learning journey will be supported both by our team based in Boulder and a supervisor at the facility.

This roleWe're seeking a Microfabrication Engineer with hands-on experience building devices at the micro and nano-scale. You will be focused on Fathom Radiant's cleanroom fabrication process development efforts at the Washington Nanofabrication Facility (WNF). In driving development of fabrication process flows, you will maintain process stability and closed-loop metrology of fabricated devices. Your learning journey will be supported both by our team based in Boulder and a supervisor at the facility.
Areas of Contribution:
- Refine process flows for fabrication of novel micro- and nano-devices through hands-on work in WNF.
- Develop and record metrology standard processes for device characterization.
- Develop and maintain statistical process control through design optimization of custom closed-loop metrology for yield and reliability.
- Manage data-tracking methods, substrate tracking, and experiment design for devices in the cleanroom.
- Prepare weekly reports summarizing results and planning next process steps.
Requirements (necessary skills for this role):
- B.S., M.S., or equivalent experience in materials science, chemistry, electrical, or mechanical engineering or physics
- Demonstrated experience with device design, mask design, and cleanroom wafer processing (e.g. spin-coating, mask and maskless lithography, wet-bench processing, RIE dry-etching, CVD, etc.)
- Experience working with MEMS, optoelectronics, and/or silicon electronics
- Experience with metrology and characterization (e.g., confocal microscope, SEM, reflectometry, etc.)
- Ability to effectively design experiments and iterate quickly from new results
- Ability to work independently with little oversight, define goals, find solutions, and deliver results
- Strong communication skills
- Position will be located at WNF at the University of Washington. Employee will be expected to be in-person at WNF full-time and comply with WNF’s regulations and safety standards
Nice-to-haves (we will prioritize candidates that also have these skills):
- Ph.D. or equivalent in materials science, chemistry, electrical, or mechanical engineering or physics
- Experience in defining process control limits and performing yield analysis in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in mask design and layout
- Experience in at least one numerical analysis or scripting language (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of image processing techniques and analysis
- Working knowledge of device characterization with electrical test probes
- Demonstrated success bringing devices from R&D to market through process refinement and technology transfer to foundries and contract manufacturers
