JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowship Mentoring (URFM) is dedicated to cultivating and supporting students' scholarly endeavors. At its core, the office aims to inspire, guide, and empower undergraduate students in their pursuit of research, creative projects, and prestigious fellowships.

The office offers mentorship via workshops, seminars, informational sessions and individual advising to help undergraduates access and engage with the university’s expansive research initiatives. These resources are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their research and academic endeavors.

URFM is also the central office that promotes and facilitates participation in prestigious fellowship programs, such as the Rhodes Scholarship, Fulbright Program, Goldwater Scholarship, and many others. Advisors work closely with students to identify suitable fellowship opportunities, refine application materials, and prepare for interviews, increasing the likelihood of success in these highly competitive programs.

Overall, the Penn State Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowship Mentoring serves as a catalyst for academic excellence, innovation, and professional development. By fostering a culture of inquiry, discovery, and collaboration, the office empowers students to become leaders in their fields and make meaningful contributions to society.

URFM is hiring for the position of Fellowships and Research Coordinator who will work with the director, and support the office’s mission:

  • Work with academic departments and relevant offices to develop materials, presentations, webinars, canvas courses and other support mechanisms to increase undergraduate students’ access to Penn States research, creative inquiry activities and fellowship development

  • Support advising, nomination and submission cycles for a portfolio of fellowships

  • In collaboration with the director facilitate one or more of URFM signature student initiatives such as the Undergraduate Research Ambassadors program or Spark Fellowship development program

  • Support advising for major fellowships including individual and group advising, feedback on application materials, mock interview support,

  • Overall support of office activities including classroom visits, events, creating outreach materials and social media campaigns, serving on selection panels, liaising with partner departments and offices
