Job Description
The Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (AVPFA) plays a critical role in advancing faculty development and academic leadership initiatives across the university. Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the AVPFA provides strategic leadership and coordination for key faculty programs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and growth among academic leaders and faculty. The AVPFA supports institutional priorities as articulated by the Executive Vice President and Provost and is responsible for leading initiatives that enhance faculty success, leadership capacity, and institutional effectiveness.The Office of Faculty Affairs is committed to supporting faculty at every stage of their careers, advancing academic excellence and fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and dynamic scholarly community. The office works in partnership with colleges, other academic units, and with faculty at all levels, from early-career scholars to senior academic leaders, to provide mentorship, professional development, and leadership training programs designed to support faculty success and empower faculty excellence. Faculty Affairs is dynamic and responsive, continually adapting to the evolving needs of the university and its faculty, with a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and shared governance. The office plays a critical role in aligning faculty success with the broader strategic priorities of the university.
The Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs is a vital member of a high-functioning, team-based administrative unit that values transparency, collaboration, and shared decision-making. This dynamic office seeks to continually develop and implement programs to support faculty success and empower faculty excellence, providing ample opportunities to the person in this role to explore additional areas of interest and strength.
Required Qualifications
• An advanced degree from an accredited institution
• Substantial experience in higher education leadership, faculty development, or academic administration.
• Demonstrated experience in leadership development and academic program management.
• A strong understanding of academic leadership structures and the unique challenges faced by faculty in various stages of their careers.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build relationships across a diverse academic community.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• A commitment to inclusive excellence, with a track record of fostering diversity in all forms and promoting the success of underrepresented groups in academia.
Preferred Qualifications
• Terminal degree preferred.
• Experience leading initiatives that support academic leaders at the department, college, or institutional level.
• Familiarity with faculty governance and faculty evaluation processes.
• Direct personal experience as a faculty member in an academic setting.
