Job Overview

The Brilliant Beginnings Lab, situated within the Early Childhood Innovation Network (ECIN) and Georgetown’s Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities is seeking a Research Assistant to support a multidisciplinary portfolio of research projects pertaining to perinatal, infant, and early childhood mental health implementation science. This position will work with senior staff and faculty to design, implement, and evaluate these projects. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting literature reviews; assisting with project recruitment, screening, and scheduling; conducting, transcribing, and coding qualitative interviews and focus groups; assisting with qualitative data management and analysis; managing IRB protocols and participant incentives; and helping coordinate meetings with project partners.

Work Interactions

The position will report administratively to the Director of Operations and programmatically to the Department of Psychiatry (Amalia Londoño Tobón, MD, Assistant Professor). This position will interface directly with project faculty and staff, and will communicate regularly with partners on the grant. In addition, the position will interface with team members from the Early Childhood Innovation Network (ECIN) and other partnering agencies.

Requirements and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a health-related field—including psychology, neuroscience, biology, social work, public health, or another relevant discipline—is required. Basic knowledge of the principles, processes, and methods of medical and social science research through literature reviews and/or field experience is also required. A successful candidate will have one year of experience in a research setting, proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and knowledge of library and web-related research. Additionally, the candidate must have a strong interest in perinatal, infant, and early childhood development, parental mental health and substance use, and implementation science.

Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative statistical software (SPSS, STATA, R, Atlas.ti, Dedoose) and online survey software (Qualtrics, REDCap). Given the lab’s bilingual focus, proficiency or fluency in Spanish is highly desirable. Prior experience conducting literature reviews, working in medical settings (including obstetrics and pediatrics), and collaborating with community advisory boards is preferred. The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills to balance multiple projects simultaneously and exhibit the empathy and cultural humility required to engage with diverse community partners and families.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
