About the role

Job Overview

The Product Manager, Overhead Distribution Automation is responsible for all aspects of product management for the Overhead Distribution Switchgear product portfolio including developing product strategies and roadmaps, leading New Product Introductions (NPIs), managing the product through the life cycle, product pricing, promotion, meeting aggressive growth goals for the business, and assisting the Electric Utility customers in defining solutions for their distribution automation needs.

 

This role will be responsible for identifying and understanding the unique needs of each customer and customer segment in the Electric Utility market, while driving standardization across the Overhead Distribution Switchgear product platform. This role will also be responsible for defining the short term and long term product strategies, and identify synergies across the Grid Automation product offerings to augment the needs of electric utilities.

A Day In The Life

  • Develop a 5-year strategic vision and product line roadmap.
  • Develop business case with market intelligence and financial analysis for new product development and sustaining projects.
  • Manage the overall product life cycle from ideation to end-of-life.
  • Develop marketing/product requirements documents (MRD) defining the form fit function of new overhead switchgear products.
  • Perform market research and monitor the competitive landscape/products support strategic and tactical business planning.
  • Provide thought leadership and expertise with electric utility overhead switchgear products
  • Serve as the subject matter expert with respect to the overall market, solutions, and each product’s capabilities.
  • Act as a cross functional leader promoting the vision and strategy with engineering, operations, sales, and marketing.
  • Lead development of product collateral to support marketing and sales with valuable webinars, white papers, and speaking engagements.
  • Deliver and execute an annual budget for inclusion in the Utility Automation BU P&L.
  • Set and manage pricing models to meet revenue and profitability goals.
  • Work with Sales, Finance, Operations, and Account Management to deliver monthly revenue projections and demand forecasts.
  • Drive activities and create content to complete sales proposals
  • Directly manage application and product engineers ensuring timely technical question advisory, issue resolution, quote creations, and proposal/bid submissions.
  • Initiate and coordinate nationwide VOC feedback gathering by working closely with sales and field application engineering teams
  • Work with internal and external third parties to assess partnerships and opportunities that can accelerate the growth of the business.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform product demos to customers and provide support to Sales and Distribution partners as needed.
  • Support sales teams and channel partners with presentations, training, demonstrations, and other materials as needed.
  • Active participant in industry events and trade shows.
  • Attend sales meetings with customers and distributors to highlight solution value and perform system demonstrations functional capability of the overhead switchgear products.
  • Assist in developing corporate presentations and documentation (brochures, user guides, press releases) to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Assist in the development of training materials needed to train on the sales, use and operation of the communicating sensing and control product line.
  • Development of product launch, rollout and end-of-life plans.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (electronics, communications, software) with demonstrated success defining technical products.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ commercial experience in product marketing, product management and/or sales
  • Minimum 3 years manager level experience in product development, marketing, or management.
  • Demonstrated commercial success with particular emphasis on business and product strategy development and execution.
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional teams (program management, engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, sales, and customers).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal reporting authority.
  • Experience performing market research and collecting competitive information.
  • Experience developing and monitoring a product roadmap.
  • Experience developing and prioritizing product feature sets and enhancements
  • Advanced written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced office software skills – Microsoft™
