Job Summary:

The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a nationally recognized leader in clinical care, research, and education related to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and co-occurring psychological health conditions. MIBH provides specialized, evidence-based care to active-duty service members, Veterans, and first responders with persistent and complex symptoms following TBI.

MIBH delivers care through a structured Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that includes comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and individualized treatment planning. Care is provided through a co-located interdisciplinary team model that integrates conventional Western medicine with evidence-based integrative therapies.

 

MIBH seeks a highly motivated, experienced Medical Assistant (MA), emergency medical technician (EMT) or Nursing Assistant (CAN) to serve in an expanded clinical, administrative, and research support role within an interdisciplinary team. This position goes beyond traditional MA/EMT/CNA responsibilities, incorporating care coordination, operational support, and participation in clinical research initiatives aligned with MIBH’s mission to advance brain health.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to patient-centered care delivery, program operations, quality improvement, and research activities, helping support patients with complex neurological, cognitive, and psychological conditions related to TBI.

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Support

  • Support interdisciplinary care delivery for patients with mild to moderate TBI and associated conditions

  • Perform medication reconciliation for all EVAL and IOP patients prior to any provider evaluation

  • Document vitals, past medical history, surgical, family and social history, prior to provider evaluation of EVAL patients

  • Perform vitals and medication reconciliation for all IOP patients the day of arrival

  • Update past medical history, surgical, family and social history for all IOP patients (ideally within 24 hours of arrival)

  • Upload imaging (Head CT, Brain MRI)

  • Prepare exam rooms, assist during clinical visits, and ensure efficient patient flow

  • Obtain and monitor vital signs, including orthostatic measurements and specialty screenings (e.g., hearing, POTS assessments)

  • Perform clinical procedures including venipuncture, specimen collection, and medication reconciliation

  • Assist in implementation of individualized treatment and care management plans

  • Provide patient education on treatment plans, medications, and self-care strategies

  • Identify deviations from normal clinical findings and escalate concerns appropriately

  • Conduct phone triage and patient follow-up communications
