Examples of duties

This position focuses on inspecting reclamation construction activities and supporting environmental restoration projects throughout the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation.  As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:


  • Project Inspection: Evaluate reclamation work such as backfilling, grading, seeding, drainage installation, and wetland construction for correct methods and materials
  • Site Measurement: Use surveying tools to check elevations, record quantities, and verify placement of materials on assigned work sites
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed daily records including work performed by contractors, equipment used, and quantities needed for payment
  • Compliance Monitoring: Inspect erosion control devices, verify adherence to plans and permits, and initiate corrective actions when necessary
  • Borehole Oversight: Monitor drilling operations, document subsurface conditions, and ensure proper sealing and restoration of work areas
  • Contract Coordination: Review plans, discuss procedures with contractors, and confirm that all construction follows required specifications

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installations; or
  • An Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
