Position Summary 


The Senior Network Infrastructure SME is a senior level technical authority for enterprise network architecture, modernization, and security across DoD mission environments (IL4/5/6) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. This role leads end to end design for data center, campus/branch, WAN/SD WAN, and cloud connectivity; and drives Zero Trust–aligned segmentation and automation to deliver resilient, scalable, and compliant networks.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise to a team of high-performing network engineers
  • Work directly with Team Leads, Project Managers, Network Engineers, and Network Architect for coordination of routine maintenance, break/fix repair, and planned changes; coordinating any down time with all appropriate leadership and stakeholders
  • Generates network design guidance in coordination with architects, SMEs, and system engineers; along with the installation/deployment, configuration, testing, compliance enforcement, and reporting on all assets.
  • Support discrete project proposals and responses to Request for Services (RFS) by providing best estimates of timelines, costs, etc. as required
  • Perform end-user support to internal teammates and tenants, including but not limited to Layer 1-3 troubleshooting, physical fault isolation and cabling, etc.
  • Develop, track, revise, and monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of IT and computing resources as well as assure and sustain the integrity and security of network infrastructure
  • Provide advice and training to end-users, and guide and inform senior leadership.
  • Use approved work tracking tools (Remedy) for all approved changes on baselined systems
  • Update documentation (network diagrams, rack diagrams, etc.) utilizing approved work vehicles and the change management process, and submit to Architect/SME/System Engineer for approvals
  • Perform hardening and STIG checklist validation/verification for associated network infrastructure and virtual machines
  • Research outages, implementation failures/impediments, and other issues, guiding resolutions and briefing stakeholders of statuses and updates
  • Provide standardization of design and implementation documentation, instructions, and improvements to existing processes/procedures
  • Review documentation ensuring engineering rigor and quality, maintaining responsibility for projects and tasks assigned to the team
  • Maintain written documentation of incidents and escalate issues to the appropriate level of support as required by documented policies and procedures
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior/mid network engineers and interns/fellows to ensure their participation in experience-gathering day-to-day activities, and review work products and efforts during their development

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level III or IAM Level II baseline certification (examples: CISSP, CASP+ CE, CISM).
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must have 10, or more, years designing and leading large-scale enterprise or DoD networks across data center, WAN/backbone, campus/branch domains.
  • Must have expert level knowledge of routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, IS IS), EVPN VXLAN and/or MPLS, QoS, IPv6, multicast, and network resiliency patterns.
  • Must have demonstrated success implementing Zero Trust segmentation, 802.1X/NAC, identity aware firewall policy, and FIPS validated cryptography.
  • Must be familiar with hybrid/multi cloud networking patterns and IL4/5/6 operational constraints; strong grasp of RMF/STIG compliance.

Desired Requirements

  • Top Secret/ SCI Clearance
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Enterprise
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent
  • Prior experience supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other DoD organizations.
  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN), automation, and cross-domain solutions.
  • Cloud networking foundations (e.g., AWS/Azure associate level) helpful for hybrid designs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to brief senior leaders and translate technical concepts into mission impact
