Digital Communications Manager

Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for wildlife conservation and a pulse on digital trends? The Indianapolis Zoo is looking for a dynamic Manager of Digital Communications to lead our social media strategy and drive engagement across our digital platforms. As part of the Public Relations team, this role is instrumental in promoting the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. You'll develop engaging content, manage multiple social channels-including the Zoo's main accounts and special initiatives like the Indianapolis Prize and the Global Center for Species Survival-and shape our brand voice online.
What You'll Do
- In collaboration with the PR Director, lead strategy and day-to-day management of the Zoo's social media platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube).
- Develop and manage a cohesive digital content calendar and social media strategy.
- Craft compelling, on-brand content that inspires audiences and aligns with our conservation mission.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external influencers, managing the Zoo's Social Media Ambassador Program.
- Analyze metrics and provide performance reports with strategic insights.
- Support public relations and crisis communications when needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field.
- 3+ years of professional social media or digital communications experience.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills (AP style preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite; photo/video editing skills a plus.
- Strategic thinker with strong project management and multitasking abilities.
- Comfortable working outdoors and available for occasional nights and weekends.
- Familiarity with the Zoo's mission and enthusiasm for wildlife conservation.
Bonus Points
- Experience managing digital campaigns or influencer relationships.
- Familiarity with social media analytics tools.
- Demonstrated ability to engage online communities with creativity and strategy.
