As a Field Service Technician, you are responsible for start-up and commissioning and post-start-up field services primarily within the data center market, in Electrification Services for the United States, ensuring ABB standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
This is a highly travel-intensive position requiring extensive nationwide travel to customer locations across the United States. Success in this role requires the ability and willingness to spend significant time traveling and working at customer sites. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work as per customer order and expectation(s).
- Displays clear understanding of sense of urgency and care in their own area of responsibility.
- Ensures customer retention by delivering superior customer experience and effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.
- Plans and prepares site work for larger project team and manages related subcontractors at site.
- Plans and executes work on a first-time right approach with customers, and ensures the job is done on time and as per quality standards.
- Works with Site Manager and Sr. Field Service Technicians to identify improvement needs and potential solutions for them in the ways of working and the products in question and drives improvement actions in their own area of responsibility.
- Troubleshoots equipment/systems/process failures, requests proactive corrective actions, and makes recommendations to avoid such issues in the future, escalating through Site Manager as needed.
- Assist the factory with data collection and timely reporting to facilitate fleet performance analysis, including marketing intelligence and sales opportunities for services, and support.
- Assist customer with spare parts ordering, issues resolution, and provisioning.
- Perform collateral duties as assigned to meet business needs as they relate to HSE, Quality, Integrity, etc.
- Perform duties in Power Delivery, Medium & Low Voltage Electrification and Control Systems, etc.
- Maintain documentation on assignments, complete reports, and test reports, understanding and utilizing job related software at completion of each assignment.
- Ability and willingness to travel 90-100% of the time throughout the United States.
- This will include long-term assignments requiring consecutive weeks of travel.
- Promptly book travel arrangements upon receipt of assignments.
- Always wear personal protective equipment/uniforms.

- Leads Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities at site.
- Reports unsafe practices and incidents.
- Applies safety rules and safe practices as well as environmental responsibilities.
In this role, you bring:
- Theoretical experience in all aspects of electrical design.
- High school diploma/GED with 5 years of hands-on electrical/electronics engineering experience; OR associate degree/trade certification with 3 years of experience; OR bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience; OR high school diploma/GED with 3 years of equivalent work or military experience servicing critical power equipment.
- Must be knowledgeable of the National Electrical Code (NEC), Safety Codes and Regulations and QA (Local & National).
- Proven analytical and quality improvement ability.
- Able to work with all levels of maintenance, engineering, and management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft suite of products, Google suite of products (Sheets, Docs, Drive, and Slides), project issue resolution software (BIM, Compass, CxAlloy, Procore, etc.).
