About the role

PSYCHIATRIC CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST (PCNS)

Department: Behavioral Health

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Barrington - OCR

Reporting To: Amy Maguire

Description

If you are a board-certified psychiatric clinician who wants your work to mean something, this is the role for you. At EBCAP, we believe that every person, regardless of the complexity of their needs, deserves compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care. As our Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will sit at the heart of that mission, delivering expert care to some of the most underserved individuals in our community through our CCBHC and FQHC programs.

This is a role where you show up as a clinician, a collaborator, a consultant, and a leader and where the work you do each day genuinely changes lives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will lead comprehensive psychiatric evaluations — bringing your clinical expertise to diagnostic formulation, risk assessment, and treatment planning that genuinely changes lives.

You will manage the full arc of psychiatric medication treatment, applying best practices to prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications with confidence and precision.

You will play a meaningful role in the fight against the opioid crisis, providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) including buprenorphine and naltrexone to help individuals reclaim their lives through recovery-oriented care.

You will be a steadying clinical presence for individuals with the most complex needs — including SPMI and co-occurring substance use disorders — delivering care that drives real improvements in stability and quality of life.

You will reach patients where they are, delivering seamless psychiatric care through both in-person and telehealth models that expand access and remove barriers to treatment.

You will be a valued partner in a truly integrated care model, collaborating with primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, whole-person care.

You will have a seat at the table — contributing your clinical insight to interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care planning that shapes outcomes for the people we serve.

You will be a trusted consultant and mentor, offering guidance to behavioral health and medical colleagues on complex psychiatric cases and medication management.

You will maintain high-quality, timely clinical documentation within our electronic medical record, ensuring compliance with EBCAP policies and payer requirements.

You will contribute to a financially sustainable, high-performing service by meeting productivity, access, and performance benchmarks that support our CCBHC mission.

You will be recognized as a clinical leader and subject matter expert, shaping psychiatric best practices and raising the standard of evidence-based care across the organization.

You will help build something lasting — contributing to program development, quality improvement, and clinical workflow innovations that strengthen how we serve our community.

You will be a reliable colleague when it matters most, providing coverage for fellow prescribers to ensure no patient goes without continuity of care.

You will grow professionally through clinical supervision and consultation with our Chief Psychiatrist, supported by a leadership team invested in your success.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

You hold a current, unrestricted APRN/CNS license in the State of Rhode Island and board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), demonstrating your readiness to practice at the highest standard of care.

You have an active DEA registration and are eligible to prescribe controlled substances, including for medication-assisted treatment of opioid use disorder.

You bring demonstrated experience providing psychiatric care to individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders, with a non-stigmatizing, recovery-oriented approach to every patient encounter.

You communicate clearly, collaborate instinctively, and thrive in multidisciplinary team environments where integrated care is not just a goal — it is the daily reality.

You are comfortable with electronic medical record systems and understand that accurate, timely documentation is an act of care in itself.

You are drawn to mission-driven work and deeply aligned with the belief that every person — regardless of diagnosis, history, or circumstances — deserves access to high-quality psychiatric care.

Experience in a CCBHC, FQHC, or community behavioral health setting, familiarity with value-based care models, or prior telehealth experience pre
