Position: Principal Engineer

Title: Principal Engineer

Reports To: VP of Engineering

 

Job Overview: The Principal Engineer is a highly skilled generalist and should be able to move quickly and decisively between problems at any level of engineering. The Principal Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining the services and features required to support Sustainment's ability to scale and improve manufacturing capabilities across the United States. This role requires effective collaboration between developers, infrastructure engineers, senior engineers and product leadership.  We are looking for an engineer that enjoys getting their hands dirty in the architecture of our platform and brings deep technical knowledge around effective software architecture and design. The Principal Engineer will deliver and support full-stack features on multiple SaaS products while effectively following existing code patterns and looking for opportunities to further optimize the quality and performance of the platform. 

Responsibilities: 

• Provide input to shape and optimize a large portion of our technology stack
• Help lead Sustainment’s growth by further scaling and optimizing our systems and teams
• Help extend the effectiveness of the current team through coaching and mentoring
• Build scalable solutions that solve difficult optimization problems. Understand how to translate requirements into working software
• Work with product and stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and our customers and provide solutions for those needs
• Design software architectures that allow Sustainment to be agile and react to changes quickly
• Design reliable software and processes that allow Sustainment to offer a high quality experience for our customers
• Actively contribute to the adoption of strong software architecture, development best practices, and new technologies. Be an engineering thought leader within your team and the organization

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree and/or real-world experience
• 5+  years of experience as a full-stack developer
• Experience with AWS or Azure
• Working in an early startup environment or on SaaS products is a plus
