Summary of Position:
The Laboratory QA Technician performs the general daily specimen accessioning and processing, sample preparation, instrument loading and maintenance, and quality assurance procedures as set forth by the laboratory guidelines.

Summary of Position:
The Laboratory QA Technician performs the general daily specimen accessioning and processing, sample preparation, instrument loading and maintenance, and quality assurance procedures as set forth by the laboratory guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Follows procedures for specimen handling, processing, and maintaining records of patient results.
- Performs instrument and procedural calibrations and instrument maintenance.
- Follows the laboratory’s policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or the reporting of test results and notifies laboratory management.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when the test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Writes laboratory SOPs and laboratory documentation
- Ensures that the physical environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed.
- Provides a safe environment from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Performs other related duties as negotiated.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent training.
Continuing Education (CE) Requirements:
- Although there are no continuing specific education requirements, CLIA and COLA encourage CE for all laboratory staff. Board Certifications may have mandatory requirements and differ depending on the certification agency.

All laboratory testing and equipment. Waived and non-waived laboratory instrumentation.
Typical Mental Demands:
- Must be able to analyze variables and choose an effective course of action. Must react favorably in stressful situations.
- Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
- Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position.
Physical Demands:
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computers.
- Requires a normal range of hearing and color vision.
- Requires standing, reaching, and lifting ~ 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Monday-Friday, 1st shift
- Occasionally asked to work overtime.
