Position Summary:The Clinical Nurse Manager III will provide nursing leadership in proactively managing and coordinating clinical practice and dialysis services within the hospital and the Nephrology Ward. They will be responsible for the provision of human, financial and material resources in accordance with organisational values and goals, ensuring a cost effective nursing service focusing on providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care. The Clinical Nurse Manager III will also provide leadership in the management of day to day workforce issues, effective and efficient delivery of dialysis and plasmapheresis services, and ensure the highest standard of clinical care within the nephrology inpatient ward in an evolving healthcare environment. They will play a leading role in conjunction with the Directorate Management team to both manage and develop dialysis capacity within the region, overseeing the facilities management of the dialysis therapies centre and the Nephrology Ward liaising with the Clinical Nurse Managers and Directorate Nurse Manager as appropriate.

 

The post holder will:i. Promote a high quality service delivery, ensuring effective patient care, research, training and development within the dialysis and nephrology environment, liaising appropriately with Clinical Nurse Managers, staff nurses, multi-disciplinary team and other hospital staff and external agencies, as required.ii. Promote the development and maintenance of high standards of care ensuring that the care offered is family centred, sensitive and responsive to all service users.iii. Planning the delivery of services by accurately estimating the needs of the nephrology in patients, dialysis and plasmapheresis services and prioritising resources appropriately.iv. Assist in the development of short, mid and long term strategic plans for the dialysis, plasmapheresis and nephrology services.v. Promote the effective and efficient delivery of services to patients and hospital staff.vi. Participate in departmental strategic planning and provide leadership to implement and support/lead Quality Initiative developments.vii. Monitor service objectives, to ensure that the quality of the service is congruent with the resources available.viii. Ensure effective work practices with other dialysis units and healthcare agencies to maximise the delivery of a seamless service.ix. Oversee the management of staff and activity of the nephrology inpatient ward.

 

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Operational Management:i. The Clinical Nurse Manager III will manage and coordinate dialysis and nephrology services across Beaumont hospital campus and related satellite units.

ii. Provide leadership in the day to day workforce planning issues that may arise ensuring appropriate contingency plans are in place.

iii. Actively participate in service development initiatives within the directorate at a strategic and local level ensuring quality service delivery.

iv. Initiates and encourages appropriate participation from all grades of nursing staff, healthcare assistants and household operatives to ensure and to provide smooth management of the unit.

v. Ensures the provision of an emergency dialysis service to Critical Care Units, as necessary.vi. Ensures the provision of a Plasmapharesis service, as necessary.

vii. Actively promotes the use of clinical data management systems with particular emphasis on developing dialysis nursing practice and in the audit of patient care standards.

viii. Ensures that data management systems are in place for tracking and recording dialysis activity and related workload are maintained and developed.

ix. Ensures that the systems for the provision of Clinical Engineering Services meet the needs of the Unit on a 24 hour basis.x. Ensures that the systems for the provision of suitable water for dialysis therapy are satisfactory involving review of quality audit tests, and discussion
