Job Summary: Epirus seeks a Detection and Response engineer to join the Information Security team to help in developing cutting edge detections using the latest in automation and threat intel. This role will be heavily involved in creating a library of automated response procedures, detecting malicious activity within the enterprise, and acting as the first line of defense against attackers. This role will report to Sr. Manager, Cybersecurity. 

 

Responsibilities:   

  • Develop detection signatures and SIEM rules derived from industry standards and emerging threats
  • Develop standard operating procedures for response to alerts and detections derived from industry standard frameworks
  • Integrate into the existing event generation lifecycle and identify areas of improvement
  • Act as a primary member of the incident response team
  • Maintain data pipelines for log ingestion across a large variety of data sources
  • Lead threat modeling and threat hunting sessions; walking through potential attack vectors and identifying areas of weakness and telemetry gaps
  • Participate in on-call rotations for security incident triage and response

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of hands-on detection engineering experience
  • Deep experience in an industry standard SIEM; writing detections, creating reports, and threat hunting
  • Experience participating in incident response at each step of the IR lifecycle
  • Demonstrate a robust understanding of security concepts encompassing network, endpoint, application, IAM and cloud
  • Strong understanding of attacker TTPs (tactics, techniques, and procedures)
  • Able to translate between query languages, quickly create complex, scalable queries, and continually refine queries to reduce false positives and increase contextual awareness
  • Experience with at least one general purpose programming language (Python, etc)
  • Must be able to obtain a US Security Clearance  
  • Must be able to work in-person for a minimum of three days per week

 

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Aerospace/defense and/or military cybersecurity experience
  • Experience in offensive/defensive operations, or “purple teaming”
  • Experience with detection and response in a multi-cloud environment
  • Proficiency in AWS Security concepts, services, and logging
  • Possess industry-relevant certifications such as Splunk, AWS, and Sec+ 

 

ITAR REQUIREMENTS: 

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is: $114,300—$141,300 USD
