Are you looking to shape the future of commercial avionics? Collins Aerospace is seeking a Software Engineering Co-op for our Air Transport Systems Engineering team located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for Summer/Fall 2026. This organization is responsible for developing and supporting real-time embedded software for numerous processing platforms used in our commercial airline avionics products and cockpit display systems. 

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity).

What You Will Do: 

  • Support the design, development, and maintenance of flight-critical embedded software for commercial aviation solutions and avionics products 

  • Contribute to assigned cross-functional engineering project team responsible for the design, development, and verification of real-time embedded software 

  • Support project team activities related to the specification of requirements, software implementation, test case development, verification test execution, and certification support 

  • Work with desktop computer in an office environment and with target hardware in an engineering lab to achieve the goal of delivering a high-quality software product within schedule and cost constraints

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Student must be pursuing a Bachelors or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position ​

Qualifications We Prefer: 

  • Demonstrated interest in embedded software solutions and board-level device drivers 

  • Programming experience in C, C++ and/or Python 

  • Comfortable with real-time operating system and object-oriented programming concepts 

  • Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle 

  • Energetic and proactive self-starter with strong interpersonal and communications skills
