Job Summary

Langan is seeking a part-time Senior Environmental Planner to join its collaborative team in New York City and expand the firm's growing Land Use Planning practice in the metropolitan area. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate land development and other types of projects and client deliverables to identify procedural obstacles and resolutions, with respect to local land use/zoning regulations, and city/state environmental regulations;
  • Review technical procedures and CEQR/SEQRA/NEPA work products; provide quality assurance and quality control;
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients and Langan team on regulatory process involving land use approvals;
  • Develop new business relationships and expand existing business relationships; develop and/or review scope and fee proposals; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited environmental or urban planning program or an equivalent program of study;
  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP);
  • Minimum of 15 years total experience. A combination of private and public sector is desirable;
  • Proven knowledge of environmental review and permitting at all governmental levels, including the federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); the New York State Environmental Quality Act (SEQRA); and the procedures to implement SEQRA in New York State (SEQR) and New York City (CEQR);
  • Comprehensive understanding of how CEQR relates to other NYC procedures and processes such as variances, special permits, funding, fair share, and especially the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP);
  • Demonstrated track record of working with New York City agencies;
  • Significant experience managing multidisciplinary environmental-review project teams, including subconsultants;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities; and
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
