The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for activities in value engineering reviewing materials and methods for cost-effective alternatives, without affecting the functionality of the printers. The focus is on the various components to provide improved cost. This role acts as a liaison with engineering, sourcing, R&D, and New Product Introduction in product cost improvement projects.
What you will be doing:
- Collaborate with the sourcing team to identify and implement efficiency improvements in the manufacturing processes of 3D printers
- Work closely with the R&D department to analyze product designs, suggesting modifications for cost reduction without compromising product quality or performance
- Engage with the sourcing team to identify cost-effective suppliers to optimize component and assembly costs
- Collaborate with various teams across the globe to understand cost reduction opportunities related to product design, product packaging, manufacturing process and non-value wastes
- Lead cross-functional teams and projects to implement hardware cost-saving initiatives, ensuring global alignment and consistency
- Conduct thorough cost analysis and value engineering assessments to identify areas for improvement through the product lifecycle
- Stay relevant on mechanical industry trends, technological advancements, and competitive landscapes to provide insights for strategic cost-reduction decision-making
- Participate with subcontractors and suppliers on design for cost initiatives, from idea to implementation
- Conduct Engineering Change orders (ECO) up to full implementation to ensure that changes are made on quality, on time and within planned costs
- Lead internal and external testing and qualifications of new components to ensure compliance and adherence to product specifications and performance in partnership with quality
Must have for this role:
- 8+ years of mechanical engineering or systems engineering experience to include:
- 5+ years of proven hands-on experience in value engineering, cost analysis, and process optimization within the machine manufacturing sector or consumer electronics
- Demonstrated experience in presenting technical information across different levels of the organization
- Proven experience in a multidisciplinary environment
Nice to have:
- Experience in 3D printing technology and the additive manufacturing industry is a plus
- Experience with quality practices at multidisciplinary organizations; working with complex technology
- Experience in CAD software – SolidWorks
- PDM / PLM tools – Agile
Travel required: 10%
