The Staff Environmental Health and Safety Professional assists in the development and deployment of best-in-class EHS programs, systems, and processes. The individual in this role works with facility leadership to comply with federal, state, and local EHS regulations- relying upon the EHS strategic plan as a template for continuous improvement of EHS metrics. Join us and you will help drive effective, sustainable implementation of corporate and local initiatives while communicating with regulatory authorities with the assistance of senior EHS professional(s). Your colleagues will look to you to maintain an effective communication process with the location's operational and maintenance organizations, in addition to providing training to facility employees and acting as a technical EHS resource for site staff.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Demonstrate responsibility for assisting the facility in complying with Clean Air Act including Title V, greenhouse gases and refrigerants. Share your understanding of compliance requirements for all air permit assessments while completing applications for new sources or source modification with assistance from senior EHS professionals. You will assist in the preparation of environmental reports including SARA 312, SARA 313, ESG report for greenhouse gases and water usage. Exercise responsibility for assisting the facility in complying with Clean Water Act and hazardous waste regulations. You may complete TRI, NPDES discharge and title V reports to the EPA with direct oversight from senior EHS professionals. You will design and assist in the implementation of the stormwater pollution prevention plans and conduct audits to ensure EPA compliance.
  • Assist facility leadership with the execution of EHS programs and regulations.
  • Duties may including act as the facility radiation safety officer and support site strategic and tactical EHS teams. Typically, exercise responsibility for providing guidance on compliance with all relevant OSHA regulatory requirements including confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment and material handling. Conduct audits to ensure OSHA compliance and participate in incident investigations, the development of corrective actions and entering information into Materion Safety.

        REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required: BS in an EHS field and 5-10 years of experience, or a Master’s degree and 3-5 years of experience or a PhD and 0-3 years of experience.
  • Preferred: A Master’s degree in a relevant EHS field and 10+ years of experience. Board certification in industrial hygiene, safety and/or environment.
  • Required:  Experience designing and implementing compliance strategies with OSHA and EPA regulations. Relevant OSHA regulations include: beryllium standard, radiation safety, confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment and material handling. Relevant EPA regulations include: Air and water permitting and compliance assurance, environmental reporting for air water, hazardous and solid waste.
  • Preferred: 10+ years of experience designing and implementing compliance strategies with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Years of Experience: 5+ for MS and 7+ with a BS
  • Required: In depth compliance knowledge of the following OSHA regulations: beryllium standard, radiation safety, confined space entry, lock out/tagout, machine guarding, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment and material handling. Relevant EPA regulations include: Air and water permitting and compliance assurance, environmental reporting for air water, hazardous and solid waste. Data collection and analysis for Materion’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) process.
  • Works under general direction to develop written instructions for technicians to comply with local and corporate EHS policies and procedures
  • Develops compliance strategies/policies and monitors compliance local, state and federal programs
  • Makes recommendations to improve the work environment based on interpretations and professional practices
  • Uses complicated environmental and industrial hygiene equipment to solve EHS issues
  • Proficient in data verification, correlation and preparation of EHS regulatory or internal reports
  • Performs calculations, data entry, data analysis, field monitoring and report writing
  • May provide leadership to EHS technicians and EHS professionals
  • Acts a technical advisor for small- medium projects and typically sized business units
