About the role

The Manager Pharmacy oversees the day to day operations of the various pharmacy areas pursuant to the distribution, administration and drug information of medication provided throughout the hospital. This individual ensures the utilization ofmedication safety principles to assure positive therapeutic outcomes.

  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit rounds
  • Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients
  • Provide clinical and operational pharmacy support in the Emergency Department
  • Actively participate in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program efforts
  • Collaborate with the Director and Pharmacy to develop and implement clinical pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy department mission
  • Serve as an active participant in local and system committees in related clinical practice areas
  • Identify, design and analyze drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy and determines action plan based on results
  • Participate in departmental and hospital quality and cost-savings initiatives
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurement, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promotes rational drug therapy selection
  • Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the clinical team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization. Coordinates formulary reviews, drug use evaluations, quality assurance programs.
  • Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents
  • Develop and implements systems and procedures to maintain an efficient and effective workflow within the pharmacy and/or assigned areas
  • Provide direction and guidance for the safe processing and dispensing of all medications for assigned area
  • Address issues or services requiring intradepartmental coordination proactively
  • Ensure an adequate inventory of pharmacy products and supplies to meet department demands
  • Ensure the department is in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, accrediting agencies; and Mount Sinai Medical Center policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to managing various personnel functions such as hiring, training, performance appraisals, coaching, rounding, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Exchanges information and provides input for inter-and-intra departmental meeting
  • May serve on a rotating basis, as on-call Administrator to handle problems that arise evenings and weekends
  • Maintains adequate documentation to satisfy JCAHO requirements or other regulatory agencies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Pharmacy (ACPE). Advanced degree, Graduate of a PGY1 residency, PGY-2 residency preferred.
  • Current New York State Pharmacist License and registration New York State Department of Education
  • Hospital pharmacy and/or clinical experience, management experience preferred
  • Computer skills: MS Word, Excel and Outlook Intermediate. Pharmacy computer system(s) Basic. Hospital Software Basic. Pharmacy perpetual Inventory Intermediate (Purchaser, IT).
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state/local pharmacy regulations and pharmacy management practices
