The Okta Device Access Team
The Okta Device Access team is at the core of Okta's mission. As the Senior Manager in this group, you will own and lead two distinct teams: our macOS client team and our backend services team.
Together, these teams build the products that create a secure and frictionless connection between an employee's device and the Okta Identity Cloud. They are responsible for the native macOS application and the scalable backend services that power the experience, helping millions of users be more productive and secure.
The Senior Manager, Engineering Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic engineering leader to own the end-to-end Okta Device Access experience. As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead both our native macOS client engineering team and our backend services team. You will be responsible for delivering a secure, seamless, and intuitive product that has an organization-wide impact.
This is a key leadership role where you will define the strategy across the full technology stack. If you are passionate about building high-performing, cross-disciplinary teams and solving complex problems that span client and server, this is the role for you.
What you’ll be doing
- Strategy: Drive the end-to-end technical vision, identify new opportunities, and ensure a sustainable long-term architecture.
- Execution: Lead delivery of high-quality client and backend services, remove roadblocks, and ensure cross-team alignment.
- Team Development: Coach and grow engineers, own the hiring and performance strategy, and build a culture of excellence.
- Leadership: Influence cross-functional partners, manage conflict, make tough decisions, and lead by example with a growth mindset
What you’ll bring to the role
- Proven Leadership: 5+ years of people management experience, with a track record of leading successful engineering teams.
- Technical Depth: Strong background in either backend (distributed systems) or client (macOS/iOS) development, with a solid understanding of the other.
- Strategic Execution: Demonstrated experience in roadmap planning and delivering complex, cross-functional projects.
- Expert People Manager: Ability to coach senior engineers and managers, with experience in performance management, promotions, and hiring.
- Agile Expertise: Experience leading teams in a fast-paced, agile/CI/CD environment.
And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!
- Deep experience in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) space.
- Experience in Device Identity or Device Management.
- Hands-on experience with macOS internals
Additional requirements:
- U.S. Citizen as defined in 42 U.S. Code § 9102; a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3). Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $232,000—$319,000 USD
