This role is a valuable part of our Research and Early Development Chapter and is the home for early research activities within the Diagnostics organization. We are organized in chapters to address discovery and specific customer area needs. We use the OneRoche approach to rapidly deliver innovation and more importantly, doing what the patient needs next.
The Opportunity
You will be joining a team of passionate scientists and engineers within the Research and Early Development chapter area in the broader Roche Diagnostic organization to drive the discovery and development of innovative solutions that have real impact on people’s lives. The Senior Scientist brings technical depth and breadth, curiosity, and creativity to be an important contributor in developing novel molecular diagnostic applications at the point-of-care. Collaborating with a team with unique backgrounds, you will work hands-on in the laboratory through all research and early development phases, from exploratory research to prototype transfer
Designs, plans and implements experiments applying established and innovative procedures, and applying scientific knowledge and accumulated experience to complete projects.
Contributes to the definition and timely achievement of overall project goals, and resolves scientific problems encountered during experimental procedures to improve productivity of results.
Ensures activities are consistent with project critical path, and responds appropriately to changing priorities.
Accurately and consistently records experimental methods, materials and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
Analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions and implements/documents process improvements.
Integrates previous and current results to determine next experimental steps and the impact of long-range project goals.
Presents findings at group or departmental meetings. Applies advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents. May assist in preparing summaries, memos, internal reports, presentations, manuscripts, etc.
Work involves troubleshooting and resolving difficult problems in creative ways. Takes a new perspective on existing solutions, exploring and implementing new concepts and methodologies.
Who You Are
Ph.D in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related fields with relevant industry experience
Exceptional candidates with a Master's degree and 5+ years relevant industry experience will also be considered
Hands-on work in the laboratory to execute experimental designs/studies is required.
Experience with molecular point-of-care IVD assay development including but not limited to sample preparation, sample enrichment, assay chemistry optimization, assay workflow, and instrumentation is highly preferred.
Proficiency with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, or isothermal-based nucleic acid amplification.
Preferred:
Assumes responsibility for timely completion of projects, ensuring activities are consistent with project critical path and responding appropriately to changing priorities.
• Recommends new or creative approaches, and/or expansion or curtailment of investigations based on experimental data or new scientific information arising from the molecular point-of-care space.
• Applies advanced technical writing skills to produce reports, summaries, presentations, internal technology transfer document, manuscripts, etc.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientists and staff on laboratory techniques, experimental methodologies, assay troubleshooting, and data analysis.Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication skills and strong data analysis sk
