The Company

MZLA Technologies Corporation (MZLA) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mozilla Foundation which runs the Thunderbird Project. Thunderbird is a global, free, and open source email client that has grown significantly in donations, staff, and aspirations since its launch 15+ years ago. We are expanding our team as we expand our products and services to offer our users the best-in-class communications solution. This new role is an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who is excited to build and optimize engineering workflows to have a direct impact on our future growth.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to manage the overall efforts of both Desktop and Mobile projects. This role will be responsible for coordinating multiple projects and cross-functional project teams to ensure that project results are met. This includes leading project teams, establishing/maintaining project timelines and budgets, being responsible for the completion of deliverables and prioritizing actions. The Project Manager will be an individual contributor and will report directly to the Director, Product Engineering.

This is a remote, full time position. We expect excellent written communication skills so as to foster strong work coordination over email, video conferencing, Matrix, and Bugzilla.

What You’ll Do

  • Create project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Develop detailed project plans and timelines, ensuring resource availability and allocation and delivering every project on time within budget and scope.
  • Coordinate people and processes and serve as the go-to person for everything involving a project’s organization and timeline.
  • Ensure there are regular reviews, accountability and risk management of projects.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
  • Resolve any blockers in projects or initiatives underway that are impeding success.
  • Investigate and evaluate opportunities to improve work flows and delivery models to increase efficiency and delivery velocity.
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • 6+ years of project management experience in a software development environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver and maintain multiple, complex software projects.
  • Solid technical background, with 6+ years of hands-on experience in software development and web technologies including HTML, CSS, JS.
  • Experience with multiple common development workflows (Agile, Waterfall) as well as knowledge of sprints, scrums, burndowns, and velocity tracking.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills and ability juggle many activities without losing sight of the highest priority items.
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions with sometimes imperfect data.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication, with the ability to clearly and concisely interact with an international audience.
  • Results and detail oriented with strong learning and exploration skills.
  • Knowledge and experience using Project Management tools such as Notion, Asana or Jira.
  • A user-centered approach, with a keen interest in collaborating with and serving a community’s needs.

Bonus points for

  • Advanced JavaScript programming knowledge.
  • Previous experience in the fields of email communication, or previous experience with Thunderbird.
  • Previous experience with an Open Source project, or participation in an Open Source community.
  • French, German, Japanese, or any language proficiency in addition to English.
  • Cover letter highly recommended.
  • Eastern time zone is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

We benchmark our base salaries to local markets and target the 60th percentile of the peer market. The salary ranges for this role are:

  • US: $120,000 - $145,000 USD
  • Canada:  $96,800
