GHD is growing! Our U.S. West offices have a strong backlog of projects. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Staff Structural Engineer to work from our Honolulu, Hawai’i office location. This position offers great variety of projects and the opportunity to advance into a structural engineering role. In this role you would assist in delivering projects under our U.S. Federal Sector contracts, delivering quality, safety, schedule and scope against budget. This role could include business development.

This position supports clients in Hawai’i, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and other Pacific island locations.

Responsibilities of the position will include, but be not limited to:

  • Planning and owning the delivery of structural reports, plans, specifications, and calculations.
  • Leading and contributing to the preparation of proposals and bids for projects.
  • Managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Coordinating the work of the team, mentoring less experienced team members.
  • Providing creative solutions to fit the needs of our clients and communities.

The Ideal candidate would have the following skills: 

  • Excellence at all stages of the project life-cycle, including preparing project scope and fee proposals, writing feasibility studies, preparing basis of design reports, preparing calculations, consulting, developing detailed design drawings and specifications, developing budgetary construction cost estimates, and providing construction support, and managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Experienced with Autocad; experience with Revit is considered a plus.
  • Developing experience in seismic design, wind load design, buildings, bridges, water fronts, marine structures, piers, wharves, mooring dolphins, bulkheads, seawalls, coastal revetment, ship and ferry terminals.
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams – e.g. architects, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and fire protection engineers.
  • Experience working with federal and local government clients preferred.
  • Experience working with the Uniform Facilities Criteria (UFC) and other Department of Defense engineering requirements.
  • Experience working with the International Building Code.
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and guidelines such as ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ASCE 61, ACI 318, AISC 360 etc.
  • Developing experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, LPILE, and XTRACT.
  • Experience with the LEED green building certification system is considered a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able and willing to travel to project job sites and client offices as needed.
  • High ethical standards.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an ABET accredited school in Structural Engineering or similar degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional consulting engineering experience with exposure to defense, water/wastewater, waterfront, architectural, industrial, or related projects.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Hawai’i (Structural) or ability to obtain Hawai’i structural license within 2 years. Other state engineering registrations may be considered.
  • Must be a US Citizen
