This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Project Manager, Transit and Rail – for our Austin, TX office.  Be involved in projects with our Transit and Rail Systems Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts in the successful completion of multiple simultaneous projects of varying sizes, encompassing a wide range of complexities and requirements, including contract negotiation and the management of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Support larger projects as a Program Manager, Project Manager, Task Manager, or Design Manager.
  • Interface routinely with traditional Owner, clients, design-build contractors or other alternative delivery clients, and other project stakeholders for coordinated project delivery.
  • Accountable for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects.
  • Assist with business development activities, proposal preparation, interviews and maintain regular client contact. 
  • As a Team Leader, provide mentoring, assistance, encouragement and motivation to the technical staff and junior Project Managers.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing project deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively coordinate resources and manage consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to consistently deliver tasks with competence and efficiency. 
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M). 
  • Minimum 12+ years of project and design management/construction engineering experience.
  • Engineer license (multi-state preferred).
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Demonstrates a proficient understanding of the project delivery process, coupled with a strong background and extensive experience in project management for both traditional and alternate delivery methods.
  • Highly proficient analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management. 
  • Highly proficient with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes.  
  • Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Strong self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Rail transit design experience, including railway, facility, building/station, accessibility upgrades, grade separation, subway and LRT.
  • Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.
