Position: Associate or Senior Editor, Genome Biology

Location: New York, Philadelphia or Shanghai - Hybrid working.  

Deadline: May 22, 2024

 

As one of the BioMed Central flagship journals, Genome Biology publishes outstanding research in all areas of biology and biomedicine studied from a genomic and post-genomic perspective. Areas covered include, but are not limited to: sequence analysis; bioinformatics; insights into molecular, cellular and organismal biology; functional genomics; epigenomics; population genomics; proteomics; comparative biology and evolution; systems and network biology; genome editing and engineering; genomics of disease; and clinical genomics. 

We are looking for either an Associate or Senior Editor to join the Genome Biology editorial team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the editorial mission of Genome Biology, working as part of a dynamic team of editors who assess manuscripts, work with our editorial board members and promote the journal within our research communities. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Handling original research papers within the journal’s broad scope and managing all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
  • Liaising with editors at other journals across Springer Nature and with experts in the international scientific community.
  • Attending conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with the communities and to represent the journal.
  • Engaging with the Editorial board of the journal.
  • Commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comments and other invited articles, as well as thematic article Collections on topics of strategic focus with external Guest Editors
  • Contributing to journal strategy and editorial policies.

 

To be considered for the position, you will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in an area relevant to single-cell or spatial omics and bioinformatics, computational biology, genome engineering, microbiology that will enable you to cover relevant research areas and developments within the scope of the journal.
  • Broad scientific interests and a passion for science and open access publishing.
  • Ability to critically assess manuscripts for scientific impact.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and with colleagues at all levels.
  • Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and represent the journal and BMC.
  • Substantial editorial experience is required for candidates applying for the Senior Editor position
